Her ancestors are 300 million years old. She can fly up to 50 km p/hr and every direction imaginable with 360 degree vision. In a tiny golden-brown package this female Western Meadowhawk( Sympetrum occidentale) aka Band-winged Meadowhawk( Sympetrum semicinctum) is considered, like all dragonflies, the most successful predator on the planet with the kill ratio reaching 90% of all attempts. This vibrantly banded hunter is resting on a barren bush beside Park Lake, southwest Alberta .
