Three years prior to this photo a single Red Hot Poker (Kniphofia uvaria) stood proudly in a pot. Replanted in oodles of soil the following spring saw 15, then 35, and on this day, year four, over 60 reached for the sun, to be descended upon by a dozen fantastically sleek and colourful Cedar Waxwing (Bombycilla cedrorum). This male adult is greeting my arrival in the driveway, with no intention of giving up his tasty perch.
