Arguably the most striking Corvid if not one of the most disagreeable, the Blue Jay( Cyanocitta cristata) is a crafty, noisy, staple of rural North America. This well-crested adult frequents my southwest Alberta backyard pond, loudly announcing his arrival to annoyed House Sparrows vacating feeders. The Blue Jay is notably smarter than many birdbrains, enjoys sport and mischief including mimicking other songbirds and raptors.
